The hilltop house is actually three spaces - all rented as one unit for your exclusive use - a main living cabin, a sleeping cabin, and a washhouse. Set on the ridge above the rest of the property, with it's own private drive and parking area it is very private.
A showcase for the skills of local blacksmith, Doran Van Doren, who designed and crafted the lights, fixtures and deck railing, it is located on the crest of the hill overlooking the main house with really stunning views. With stone roofs, windows all around, and a deck cantilevered out over the hill nature feels very close at hand.
The main cabin is 16’x20’. It is surrounded by an 1,200 sq. ft. deck which is furnished with a stone table with chairs for eight on the east side and a thickly cushioned loveseat, cocktail table, and two big comfy armchairs on the north side. The gas grill is on the west side of the deck next to a second stone table.
The cabin is constructed of logs and hemlock beams with a rustic stone roof. The north wall of the main cabin has two large floor to ceiling arched glass windows set in hemlock frames and a glass door leading out to the deck, while the other main cabin walls are made of stone for the first three feet with screened windows continuing up to the roof line.
Though the buildings are rustic, the furnishings are not! The main living area has a sofa, two leather Harden arm chairs, an oversize ottoman, and a coffee table. The interior dining area has a round table and four chairs with arms.
The main cottage is heated with a small Yotel wood burning stove. We provide wood, but if the weather is cool, you would want to be comfortable managing the stove, as it is the only source of heat in the cabin. We've found that guests are comfortable without air-conditioning due to the constant breezes, shady roof overhang and nearby trees, and the use of fans for more focused air-movement.
The kitchen area is defined by stone countertops with a bluestone sink, an under-counter fridge, an induction burner, a French press with freshly ground coffee, an electric kettle, a large Breville microwave oven, and a Breville countertop oven. [Also available upon request are an Instant Pot/rice cooker, a Cuisinart egg cooker (both of them are surprisingly helpful little gadgets!), a Breville juicer, and almost any other gadget or culinary implement you might need.] There also are dishes, utensils, glasses, mugs, and pots and pans.
A sleeping cottage next-door (about ten feet from the main building and joined to it with a four foot wide granite walk) is furnished with a queen size WJSouthard ‘Cazanovian’ organic latex mattress with a 4” wool pillow top covered in cotton, and a Misson-style bedroom suite from Harden. The only source of heat in the sleeping cottage is the electric blanket, so in cooler weather you might want a pair of slippers!
The washroom is in a third building, about six feet from the main living area (still on the deck, and the walk between the door of the cottage and the washroom is covered). The room is divided in thirds, with the sink as you enter, and the Colorado red sandstone shower and the toilet in separate rooms to the left and right. The washhouse has a radiant heater, which serves the purpose of warming you when you are in the space, but it is not designed to heat the space throughout your stay - just when you are actually in the room.
The hilltop house has wifi but it does not have television.
We ask guests not to smoke on the property.
We are required to collect 11% tax.
