Sunset Lakes is a comparatively upscale, mid-size, gated vacation rental community situated just a few miles from Orlando's Disney World®. The subdivision has been built around two lakes which back on to a nature reserve area and provide a superb natural backdrop to the homes here. The whole family will enjoy the close proximity to the wildlife here with the lakes and wooded areas easily accessed from the vacation rental homes. Because of its great location close to Kissimmee's Highway 192, Sunset Lakes offers quick access to all the Orlando attractions.
Staying at Sunset Lakes
Located just a few short miles from Disney Orlando, Sunset Lakes has a lot to offer. The homes on the community are a mixture of residential and individual, often privately owned vacation rental homes. The community was completed in 1996 with properties ranging in size from 3 to 6 bedrooms and 1,600 to 3,000 sq.ft. The community comprises 161 single family, well appointed, homes which are all fully air conditioned and offer a good standard of accommodations.
There are a variety of different vacation rental home designs on Sunset Lakes which should suit most vacation budgets. Some of the homes and villas in this area of Kissimmee come equipped with a home theater and sometimes an exercise room. All of the homes at Sunset Lakes come furnished with everything you'll need in order to make the most of your vacation.
Although not a resort, Sunset Lakes provides a number of communal amenities. These include a pool and cabana, a children's play area and fishing is permitted in the well stocked main lake of the community. In addition, there is conservation land adjoining Sunset Lakes which is easily accessed and provides a safe, natural habitat for the local wildlife.
One of the advantages of staying in a vacation rental home here is that it's possible to visit Disney World® in the morning, come back to Sunset Lakes for lunch and a dip in the pool and be back in the parks for dinner and the evening firework display.
Sunset Lakes on Youtube
In order to write our Central Disney Area Destination Guide, we visited each of the communities in the Orlando area and in a lot of cases we also recorded a brief video of the community and uploaded it to Youtube. We did this on our visit to Sunset Lakes, which you can see by clicking below. These videos are fairly short and are simply intended to give an impression of the community and provide potential guests with more of a feel for the neighborhood.

The Weather at Sunset Lakes
Staying at Sunset Lakes in Kissimmee, you should expect weather ranging from warm and pleasant, through to extremely hot (June-Sept) throughout the year. The sun shines on most days in Florida and the temperature doesn't usually fall below freezing (0°C / 32F). These facts should give you a clue as to why Disney World® and Universal Studious and the other parks were built in Orlando.
Generally, if you visit the parks outside of the summer months, you should have a dry and comfortable experience. But in summer months, it's going to be hot and humid most days, with temperatures in June, July and August reaching into the mid 90s F.
The rainy season arrives in May and runs on through until October. So, when leaving for the parks, you'll want to pack an umbrella and a plastic poncho, or similar. If you're a person who enjoys witnessing torrential downpours, then you can almost set your watch by the thunderstorms each afternoon during the summer month. It's also worth mentioning the Hurricane season which runs from July through to November. Fall/Autumn sees the arrival of beautiful balmy days where average temperatures and rainfall start to reduce. Kissimmee's winter months of December, January and February offer the coolest weather with January daytime temperatures averaging around 23°C / 73°F, but these can drop to 9°C / 48°F overnight. The driest months of the year can be found during late Fall, winter into early spring.
Alternative Similar Communities
Sunset Lakes is a popular place for a vacation and if you've found a home that you like the look of, then you should send off an inquiry about its availability and exact price. But it's always worth looking at other similar vacation rental home communities and resorts which might only be a mile or two away from Sunset Lakes and which might also be of interest. It's not a huge disadvantage, but the Davenport and Clermont communities are further away from most of the attractions, but they are often priced better than vacation rental homes in the Kissimmee area. In the Davenport/Clermont area, you might want to consider Bella Toscana (the other community) and also Four Corners and also Tuscan Hills which is a fantastic place to stay if you're a golfer. If you're looking to limit the expenditure, then check out Crescent Lakes . And turning to the vacation rental communities in Kissimmee, you may want to look at vacation rentals in Emerald Island which is close to Disney and Terra Verde , which again is close to the parks.
If you can spend a little more, then how about looking at Formosa Gardens, or Windsor Hills or Windsor Palms which are both full resorts and so offer more onsite entertainment.
The quality of all of the vacation rental communities around Kissimmee and Davenport is very good and the general standard of the homes in them can be exceptional. So, we would suggest that before booking any vacation home; establish your needs including the planned dates of travel and the number of you traveling before contacting as many homeowners as possible. This will allow you to identify which vacation rental homes most closely suit your requirements. Whether it be availability dates, price, location, size of the property, facilities of the resort or community, etc, all of these should feature in your decision making process.
Driving to Sunset Lakes
If you're flying into Orlando, then the chances are that you'll arrive at Orlando International Airport. However, with the explosion of tourism in Orlando over recent years, the city is now served by two international airports; Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Orlando-Sanford Airport (SFB) which are 30 minutes and one hour's driving time, respectively from Sunset Lakes.
Most of the major airlines fly into Orlando International Airport and although sometimes more convenient, Sandford, offers far less choice of routings in and out of Orlando. Both airport offer both scheduled and charter services. There are a number of driving routes from Orlando International Airport to Sunset Lakes, but we generally advise on this one because of its simplicity. To reach Sunset Lakes from Orlando International Airport, take FL-417S towards Disney World® and continue until reaching the Celebration Avenue (exit #2). Keep right to take ramp towards US Hwy-192 in a westerly direction. Once on Hwy 192 W, drive for 4 miles and then turn left onto Formosa Gardens Blvd. After 1 mile, turn right on to Funie Steed Road. Drive for a further 1.5 miles and then turn left on to Sunset Vista Blvd and Sunset Lakes is ahead on the right.
It's also worth mentioning that Highway 192 is Kissimmee's primary tourist road. Also, much to the delight of non-native drivers, the 192 has brightly colored Guide Markers along various sections which make it easier to navigate.
