Kissimmee is a great family friendly destination and also very close to most of Florida's world renowned tourist attractions and theme parks, including the two best known theme parks in Orlando, namely Walt Disney World® and Universal Studios. Plus, you can't mention the parks without mentioning the fantastic sub-tropical climate, which of course is the reason the parks were built here in the first place.
Kissimmee is that the Same as Orlando?
Most people assume that Florida's Disney World® is located in Orlando, and to some extent that's true. However, much of Walt's playground is actually situated in the city of Kissimmee. And it's also fair to say that most vacation rental homes are also to be found in Kissimmee and not Orlando. US Highway 192 is probably best described as Kissimmee's primary tourist road. Aside from the homes located in Davenport and Clermont, Most vacation rental communities are within a mile or two of the US192. These range from the higher end communities of Formosa Gardens, Windsor Hills and Reunion on to Rolling Hills, Indian Creek and Terra Verde.
The Kissimmee Weather
If you're staying in Kissimmee, you can expect weather ranging from warm to extremely hot (June-Sept) throughout the year. The sun shines most days of the year and the temperature rarely falls below 32F. So, now we see reason Walt Disney built his park in Orlando. You can generally expect your visits to the parks to be a pretty comfortable experience. However, the summer months in Kissimmee are hot and humid, with June, July and August featuring the hottest weather of the year when temperatures can rise above 34°C / 90°F. The wet season begins around May and runs on through to October. An umbrella and a water proof jacket (or a plastic poncho) are essential for visits to the parks during the hot days of a Florida Summer. And likewise, during those hot, humid summer days. You can almost set your watch by the thunderstorms each afternoon. And of course the ‘H' word has to be mentioned. Hurricane season in Kissimmee runs from July through to November. Fall/Autumn sees the arrival of beautiful balmy days where average temperatures and rainfall start to reduce. Kissimmee's winter months of December, January and February offer the coolest weather with January daytime temperatures averaging around 23°C / 73°F, but these can drop to 9°C / 48°F overnight. Wintertime also enjoys the driest months of the year.

Driving Directions Kissimmee
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the gateway to everything the city of Orlando has to offer. Most major airlines fly into MCO and the airport is conveniently located about 30 minutes from Kissimmee. Scheduled, but less frequent flights also available at Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) which is a little over an hour's drive away. To reach Kissimmee from Orlando International Airport, take FL-417S towards Disney World® and continue until reaching the Celebration Avenue (exit #2). Keep right to take ramp towards US Hwy-192 in a westerly direction. Once on Hwy 192 W. The majority of the Kissimmee vacation rental communities are within 10 minutes drive of this point.
It's also worth mentioning that US Highway 192 is one of Kissimmee's primary tourist roads. And, much to the delight of drivers not familiar with the road, the 192 has brightly colored Guide Markers along various sections which make it easier to navigate.
