Hawaii Vacation Rentals

Vacation Rental Homes in Hawaii

Although known for its six main islands, the US state of Hawaii actually comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles. Hawaii's mixed and often dramatic natural scenery, warm tropical climate, abundance of beautiful public beaches and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers alike. Today, it's possible to rent a vacation home on any one of the six islands and Hawaiian vacation Rentals provide affordable and often luxurious base from which to explore the tropical paradise.

About Hawaii

The word Hawaii has come to have a special meaning; one which conjures visions of a tropical paradise with white sandy beaches, lush rainforests and uncharted hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered. The Hawaiian archipelago lies in the central pacific, some two thousand miles from the nearest continent. The island chain was, and still is being formed by volcanic activity, which in itself is an experience to witness. But if it's the beach you have in mind, then you won't be disappointed to hear that Hawaii has over 100 great beaches. Each island has something unique to offer travelers and each offers an abundance of Hawaii's greatest qualities: warm weather, great beaches, and beautiful scenery. Plus, renting a Hawaii vacation rental home is one of the best ways for adventurers, romantics and families alike to experience the spirit of aloha.

Climate

Hawaii has a tropical climate for much of the year with daytime temperatures usually ranging between 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If you're looking to avoid the busiest periods, it's worth knowing that the Peak Season for tourism, runs from December through to mid-April. But the best weather is often in late spring or early fall, so this time of the year might be the best period to book a vacation rental

The Islands

There are six islands easily accessible to tourists in Hawaii: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, the Big Island, Molokai and Lanai. We've briefly described each of them below:

The Big Island

The Big Island of Hawaii has a greater land mass than all of the other Hawaiian islands combined, but it still has that authentic Pacific island feel. Unlike the other more touristic islands in the chain, the Big Island feels far more primitive and wild. This tropical sanctuary is for the traveler who's looking for something a little different. And 'different' can be found in abundance, whether it be from tropical rainforests to the snow capped peaks poking out of the clouds around Mauna Kea, there's plenty to see and experience. And at sea level, the island's coast features white sands around Kohala, the green sands at Papakolea Beach, and black sands at Punaluu Beach. So, why not contemplate the world as you listen to the sound of the waves from one of our beautiful Hawaii Beachfront Vacation Rentals.

Oahu

The most visited of the islands, Oahu is defined in the tourist mind by Waikiki, Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. Waikiki is, is without doubt, Hawaii's most charismatic city and the tourist center of the state and Waikiki is probably the best known of its beaches.

On the east coast, hemmed in by a stunning mountain range, the beautiful town of Kailua sits within reach of three of Hawaii's best beaches. There are no hotels on this side of the island. So, there won't be too many tourists as most visitors usually spend most of their time around Honolulu and beaches of Waikiki, so the east coast offers a more relaxed vacation while still being within 30 minutes from the shopping and excitement of Honolulu.

If surfing is what you're after, then Oahu's north shore, is the place to head. it's about an hour's drive from Honolulu and is less populated than the rest of the island and relatively isolated. It's not as scenic as the Eastern and Southeastern sections of the island, but there are many miles of beaches to enjoy.

The central, west and northwestern sections of the Oahu is where most residents live. The coast here has a number of nice beaches that are not usually crowded with tourists.

The state's short term zoning laws in Oahu means that there is only a small selection of vacation rental homes and the majority of these are condos in and around Waikiki.

Maui

After Oahu, Maui is the most popular island with just under 3 million visitors each year. Maui features sparkling beaches, emerald fairways and stunning views. The volcanic Haleakala Crater on Maui is roughly the size of the island of Manhattan.

Maui's coastline varies in appearance; the west coast is dry with minimal vegetation, while the south eastern coast is fringed with lush tropical rainforests and waterfalls. This is the location of Hawaii's most famous scenic drive, the Hana Highway which follows the coast and offers stunning views from above the clouds.

Maui's vacation rental market is largely dominated by a large selection of condos and town homes.

Kauai

Kauai is still relatively undeveloped and is therefore still defined by its spectacular scenery. The island offers many relatively quiet sights and secluded beaches. The residents of Kauai, as with the residents of the other islands, welcome tourism but are constantly wary of anything that could spoil the island.

Kauai's north shore is home to beautiful mountain scenery and a number of hidden beaches. During the winter months, the area often experiences high rain fall levels and the corresponding storms can generate big waves which are great for surfers.

Kauai has a good selection of vacation rental properties across the island with most vacation homes located on the north, south, and east coasts.

Molokai

Molokai is frequently called the "Friendly Island", or the "Forgotten Island", and for good reason. If you're looking for somewhere off the beaten track, where life is lived at a slower pace, or if you're just looking for the real Hawaii, then look no further than Molokai. This is an island where no building is taller than a palm tree and which has a land area of 260 square miles, making it the 5th largest of the Hawaiian Islands and the 27th largest in the USA. The tourism industry on Molokai is relatively small, compared to the other islands and vacation rentals are restricted to a small number of condos on the island.

Lanai

The smallest inhabited Hawaiian island, Lanai, often known as Pineapple Island because of its history as an island-wide pineapple plantation, is free of the usual tourist traps. Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle, own 98% of the island and has stated that he wants to make Lanai into "the first economically viable, 100 percent green community". Lanai has three golf courses, one of which is public course. But away from golf, you might want to try sunbathing with a difference. Check out Shipwreck Beach on the north shore of the island. It's known as Shipwreck Beach due to the remains of a wrecked ship sitting a short distance offshore. Only a small number of vacation rentals can be found on the island.
