Suffering in The Florida Sunshine
For Brits on tour, visiting the USA is a top destination, and if you've made it that far then you simply have to visit Florida. For the kids, it's the ultimate in fun and for adults it's a dream holiday destination with its warm climate and its long sandy beaches, it's a great family destination. On top of that there is something for everyone to do. Whatever you favourite type of holiday, Florida's got it – relaxing by a pool, shopping, rollercoasters and theme parks and did I mention SHOPPING!
Let's start with what's on offer in Orlando with regard to shopping. There are two big malls here; Florida Mall and Mall at Millenia. Both have the major department stores, such as Macys, but although Florida Mall has more department stores to choose from, Millenia wins on the sheer quality of the shopping experience. If you like luxury goods and great restaurants, then Millenia should be your first port of call.
The other big shopping experience to be had in Orlando involves a visit to the outlets. There are the two major clothing outlets in town, which confusingly are both named Orlando Premium Outlets. They often offer great prices on brand names such as Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Coach. But buyer beware, as you have to look carefully at what you're purchasing to make sure you're getting the bargain you think you are. A lot of these stores now have merchandise specifically manufactured for the outlets and this is often of a lower quality than comparable goods you'd find in the department stores. So, always check the quality of the goods before parting with your money.
Most of Florida's theme parks are located in Orlando. These include Seaworld, Disney and Universal, and as well as the traditional park fun, they all also boast their own water parks and if you have time on your trip, then a visit to all of the is strongly recommended. Disney's Typhoon Lagoon has some of the biggest man-made waves in the world. You can swim with real sharks believe it or not too. If you want an adventurous experience you could try Blizzard Beach – it's frozen. Don't worry about your belongings either as most parks have storage facilities (lockers). Food and drinks are also served around the parks and are generally in keeping with the theme of the area that you're in, you just need to watch the expenditure, as park based restaurant facilities can be expensive. As you will have guessed by now, we can't recommend highly enough a trip to Florida and would recommend you check out the Orlando hotels and Vacation Rental Properties.
We'll post Catherine's second Florida post soon.
